Wren's 1924 adventure novel Beau Geste, Fort Zinderneuf is a remote French Foreign Legion outpost in the deserts of Algeria, where the protagonists are stationed. The fort is the locus of the intrigue in the novel, which also involves stolen jewels, mutiny, and an attack by Taureg tribesmen.
